Drishti 2011 - Creative contest to promote eye donation

Drishti 2011 an initiative by Antardrishti to exploit creative communication tools will certainly bring considerable awareness for eye donation. Who could be better communicators than film makers and artists. And what would be a better provocation than a contest. So film makers and artists/designers across the India are invited to participate in creative contests promoting eye donation.
Awards

One major (Golden Eye) and one minor (Silver Eye)awards will be given out ineach category at the end of the festival,carrying a cashcomponent as well as atrophy. All entries selectedfor contest will get aCertificate of Participation.
The Jury

Jury will be constituted by key professionals from film,other art forms and members of civil society.  It would be a three member panel for selection of best entries. Jury would be an empowered body with no role of organizers in selection process which will involve meticulous methods in evaluation of entries.

The decision(s) of the Jury panels would be considered final &irrevocable and no further queries / discussions would be entertained in this regard.

More then 12000 people participated in a fortnight-long eye donation awareness camp

At least 400 people including students from 5 schools in Agra and more than 12000 people from different parts of India through internet participated in a fortnight-long eye donation awareness camp organized by Antardrishti along with the eye bank, S N Medical College, Agra. Students wrote slogans and made posters, after participation in the eye donation workshop, to spread awareness about the cause. “We wanted to sensitise students and people towards the need for eye donation by conducting this awareness camp,” said Dr. Amar Prakash, one of the volunteer for this fortnight camp.
 
Prof D.J. Pandey, in-charge of the eye bank at SNMC says, “Eye donations in the city have witnessed manifold increase over the years, but it is still less than the required number. It is the changing mindset that has brought in the transition, but the myth associated with eye donation has not been completely wiped out.”
 
Mr. M. L. Gidwani, city based banker and cartoonist says, “There is a urgent need to change people’s mindset. The number of people who pledge their eyes for donation is high. However, not all donations come in as at times the relatives are not comfortable with the idea.”  To promote eye donation and fighting out superstitions and mistaken notions about the eye donation, he developed a cartoon based concept, along with Antardrishti. He is working on the basics and hopeful also that very soon it will be available for everyone to use it and will promote eye donation.

Eye Donation fortnight ( 25 August to 8 September )

We are celebrating Eyedoantion fortnight from 25 August to 8 September. During this fortnight we are trying to create awareness for eyedonation, fight out superstitions, miss beliefs and wrong notions among the massess. For this purpuse we have created a poster which explains itself. We request all of you to download the poster in hindi/english, take printout and display it at va...rious prominent places such as your office, school, college, house etc and inspire people to donate their eyes.

Awareness manual for school teachers on children's eye care is now available

From the past six years Antardrishti is working towards prevention of blindness and empowerment of  visually impaired. Majority of the blindness occurs during infancy  and childhood days due to neglect, lack of awareness and accidents.  It is reassuring that a large number of such cases of blindness can  be mitigated through timely detection and treatment.

Our  survey also led us to the fact that school teachers can play a  significant role in prevention of blindness amongst children. We  followed up our study by informal interactions, workshops and brain  storming sessions with educationist, doctors, school teachers and  social workers and felt that there is an urgent need of preparing a  manual for teachers, which enables them in a simplistic yet holistic  manner to address this issue.

The  much awaited awareness  manual for school teachers on children's eye care is now available in  Hindi language and very soon we will be bringing out the English  Manual as well. In this manual, we  have incorporated the views and suggestion of teachers,  ophthalmologist and instructors. We hope that this manual would serve the purpose of a useful training aid towards prevention of  blindness amongst children.
